What is SM Sailing?

The Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association (SM Sailing) is a non-profit organization founded in 1929 to encourage the sport of sailing and racing: to foster and encourage social fellowship between member clubs; to promote inter-community sailing races and regattas among member clubs; to foster national and international amateur sailing competition.

What does SM Sailing do for the membership of the Wild Harbor Y.C.?

  • Coordinate the Instructor Training Workshops where our Senior Instructors become level 1 & 2 certified (learn how to conduct a class, and boat safety)
  • Coordinate first aid and CPR training from the American Red Cross for out Senior Instructors
  • Organize 9 championship events (last year 18 WHYC kids sailed in 4 of the events)
  • Coordinate the Junior Team Racing series.
  • Helped us develop a 420 program in the late 80's; and an Opti program in the early 90's

Helps us make our program stronger by facilitating the sharing of ideas with other member clubs by sponsoring meetings and workshops during the off-season.

SM Sailing has asked for our help in reaching out to all the members of the WHYC sailing program. The programs that SM Sailing sponsors are vital to our ongoing success, and more importantly to the safety of our kids. The Board of Directors, Officers and Instructors all feel very strongly that WHYC should support SM Sailing and to that end we have not increased fees for the sailing program this summer with the expectation that folks will join SM Sailing. We have made joining SM Sailing very easy. The sailing program application now has a line item labeled "SM Sailing membership"' so that ll you have to do is write one check to the sailing program and we will handle your enrollment into SM Sailing. This is important, and we thank you in advance for your participation.

With family membership and receive the annual "Yearbook" which is a 150 plus page compilation of information about SM Sailing, member clubs, and trophy's dating from 1929 to the present.

Richard Watson is the WHYC representative to SM Sailing and is available at any time to talk with you about the benefits of SM Sailing membership.
